Guaifenesin is an expectorant from the group of guaiacol derivatives that is used to dissolve bronchial secretions in the treatment of colds, flu-like infections and bronchitis. It is taken orally as a solution or powder. At higher concentrations, guaifenesin is also used as a muscle relaxant in veterinary medicine.
