Isoprene Rubber (IR)

Product description

Synthetic rubber based on polyisoprene.

Manufacturing Process

Isoprene rubber is primarily produced through the polymerization of isoprene (C₅H₈).

Cold Polymerization (solvent-based polymerization): This method produces rubber with properties very similar to those of natural rubber.

Ziegler-Natta Catalysis (catalytic polymerization): This method is often more efficient and allows to produce rubber with specific properties.

Properties

Flexibility: Isoprene rubber exhibits high elasticity and flexibility.

Heat Resistance: Isoprene rubber has good heat resistance, though not as high as natural rubber.

Water Resistance: The rubber is water-repellent and well-suited for applications where moisture is a factor.

Abrasion Resistance: It has good wear resistance, making it useful for applications such as tires.

Processing Characteristics: Isoprene rubber is easy to process and can be adapted to various shapes and products.
