PET foams are closed-cell, thermoplastic, rigid foam systems and are ideal for laminating with all resin types and processes. The optimised damage tolerance of these foams allows for use in a variety of structural sandwich constructions. They are used together with prepreg systems at elevated temperatures. In shipbuilding and boatbuilding, PET foams are used in the fuselage, deck, in gravel walls and in the interior, and in rail and road vehicles they are used as load-bearing structures such as floors and walls.
PET foams ...
• are easy to process mechanically
• are highly temperature-resistant
• can be thermoformed
• exhibit excellent chemical resistance
• do not absorb water
• have no post-expansion
• have excellent fire, smoke, and toxicity properties
