Nitroimidazoles are heterocyclic compounds with a ring of 5, similar to the nitrofurans.
Effectiveness:
Nitroimidazoles inhibit nucleic acid synthesis, particularly in anaerobic bacteria. They have a strong bactericidal effect.

Infections by anaerobic bacteria, e.g. Helicobacter pylori, the trigger for most gastrointestinal and duodenal ulcer diseases.
