Tetracyclines are polyketides with an octahydrotetracene-2-carboxamide basic structure.
Effectiveness:
Tetracycline prevent protein biosynthesis in bacteria by preventing the attachment of aminoacyl-t-RNA to the ribosomes. They have a bacteriostatic effect.
Areas of application:
Infections with gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, in particular also mycoplasma and borrelia.
