REACh

REACh with Biesterfeld

  • Biesterfeld actively participated in the development of national and European chemical directives through association efforts as well as in conventions and conferences of our industry.
  •  All products traded by Biesterfeld have been scrutinised in terms of their contents in accordance with the registration and approval obligation. The substances subject to regulation have been identified and have been pre-registered.
  • Employees whose work is affected by REACh have been trained. The programme for the transfer of data to the authorities as well as amongst the SIEF participants (consortium partners) is available.
  • The necessary changes in the safety datasheet have been implemented with the entry into force of the REACh regulation.
  • The pre-registration ensures the further availability of our traded products.
  • Where necessary, we will actively take part in the consortium work in SIEF for preparation of a registration dossier.
  • Safety datasheets will be supplemented in good time by the substance safety reports. If necessary, substance safety appraisals will be conducted; the substance data as well as the application and exposure data necessary for this purpose will be passed on along the supply chain as long as no other arrangements are made.

The Biesterfeld Group is well-prepared for the continuously increasing requirements of the market for chemical services and offers its know-how via the service company Biesterfeld ChemLogS GmbH.

REACh Regulation

The chemical regulation REACh (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) supersedes various EU directives regarding evaluation and classification of waste materials within the EU and became operative on 1st June 2007.
The objective of the REACh regulation is to ensure a high level of protection for human health and for the environment and at the same time to improve the competitive ability and innovation of the chemical industry within the EU.

According to this regulation the industry is obligated to prove the safety of all utilised chemicals. Starting 1st December 2008, only registered substances may be manufactured and placed on the market within the EU. An overall period of eleven years, which is staggered according to volume of substances, exists for the registration of the approx. 30,000 substances concerned on an EU-wide basis.

No data - no market
The greater the quantity, the more substance information must be provided. The substances must be evaluated with the help of the presented data regarding their risk potential within the scope of chemical safety reports. The users will be informed about the results regarding safe handling by an expanded safety datasheet.
